With 52 autographs in every box — as well as a posh party invitation — it doesn’t take a lot to see the dollar signs inside each $25,000 box of 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection baseball cards.
Those invites alone get a good chunk of change back (details here) and each case’s 1/1 Kris Bryant autograph using one of the 65 historic Topps designs commands some, too. Those cards have sold for as much as $2,182 on eBay (so far) and all seven sold have gone for at least $1,000.
Meanwhile, the asking or bid prices in current auctions are over the $1,000 mark in all but one instance and range as high as $7,250 for those in the historic set.
But the priciest find found inside one of those 65 silver briefcases? It’s much more impressive.

What’s Buzzing Today: The $25,000 Transcendent Collection boxes keep them talking and some impressive breaks — 2016 Bowman Draft and more.
He’s one of the biggest names in the history of the game and he’s one not commonly found on cardboard when it comes to autographs.
But Christy Mathewson‘s ink has been found in a $25,000 box of 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection baseball cards and the Hall of Famer’s ink is definitely worthy of the record-setting pricey brand.
The asking price?
Christy Mathewson game-used memorabilia is elusive and expensive with the term “museum collection” being very applicable because there’s just one game-used jersey known to be in the hands of a private individual.
And that one gamer, a 1900-04 New York Giants jersey, is headed to the auction block in late August via Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.
“This Platinum Night auction will close within weeks of the centennial of Mathewson’s final pitching appearance, the last of a staggering tally of 373 major league victories, third best in baseball history,” reads the auction description. “The Sept. 4, 1916, contest against fellow pitching legend Mordecai Brown would likewise prove to be the last game of Three Fingers’ career. And in that century that has elapsed since that battle of aging titans, only a single example of Mathewson’s game-worn jerseys has surfaced within the collecting community.
“Heritage Auctions is honored and privileged by the opportunity to present that garment.”
It’s a low-grade specimen of the most-iconic and expensive baseball card of all time and it’s leading off the action as lot No. 1 in the current Robert Edward Auctions sale.
With 10 days remaining in the company’s spring sale, theSGC 10 (Poor 1) Sweet Caporal T206 Honus Wagner already has attracted 29 bids after an opening bid of $50,000.
