LeBron James will make a little NBA history tonight in San Antonio

When he arrived in the NBA back in 2003, he already was known as “The Chosen One” and just a couple years later people were pondering whether he was the best ever.

Then, he took his talents to South Beach, won a couple of NBA titles and then returned to where it all started for him and won a championship in Cleveland where there hadn’t been successes like that since the 1960s for any sport. His cardboard? It’s been among the royalty of the NBA since Day 1 — this isn’t about that.

But tonight in San Antonio LeBron James will likely make a different kind of NBA history but is just as significant (if not more so) from a historical perspective.

LeBron James’ Opening Night jersey already topping $10,000 at auction

Update: The jersey — yes, the torn one — sold for $45,000.

LeBron James‘ first game-used jersey of the year is heating up the auction block for a good cause.

It’s part of an auction from the NBA, Turner Sports and the Cleveland Cavaliers to support hurricane relief efforts via OneAmericaAppeal.org, and it’s one of nearly 60 gamers presently up for grabs via NBA Auctions.

The Kevin Love Collection will only be found via Upper Deck Authenticated and it will include limited art pieces as well as signed basketballs and jerseys.

Are LeBron’s cards under-valued given his place in the game?

LebronLeBron James became just the 20th player in NBA history to score 25,000 points for his career, and he’s done it faster than any other player — at age 31. Including ABA stats, just 25 players in history have reached that mark.

We all know James’ cards are among the priciest in the hobby but we should consider that he’ll potentially be in the Top 10 by season’s end. It makes one wonder if James under-appreciated when it comes to his value on cardboard.
