Danny Amendola Rookie Cards may be elusive with third Super Bowl ring

Just like on football cards, everybody’s attention seemed to be on Tom Brady Sunday evening in Gillette Stadium.

Now part of that was due to the drama about the gash on his hand held shut by some stitches, but we all know that the drama of him and the New England Patriots potentially reaching another Super Bowl and possibly getting a record-by-himself sixth Super Bowl ring was a big deal, too.

That Super Bowl trip is happening with a 24-20 come-from-behind victory, and that’s because of two fourth-quarter touchdown catches from Danny Amendola, who might have the toughest Rookie Card to find of all the Patriots.

Why?

Buzz Poll: Do Ezekiel Elliott’s off-field issues worry you as a collector?

Ezekiel Elliott was a force as a rookie last season for the Dallas Cowboys, coming up just short of the NFL rookie rushing record but he might as well have gotten it based on cardboard standards.

His 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, along with success for his team that firmly put it back in the national spotlight, were highlights that sold some cards and then some. But fast-forward to today and the Rookie of the Year allegedly was entangled in some type of bar fight Sunday while already being investigated for domestic violence.

We’ve been there, done that like this before — many players have had many issues, this is nothing new — but not many of them have lit up the hobby as a rookie like Elliott did last season.

That leads to questions about cardboard …

Postseason Superstars: This week’s icons include Antonio Brown, Aaron Rodgers & more … and who’s next?

AntonioBrown

Five catches, 124 years and two touchdowns.

That’s the final line for Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown in Sunday’s 30-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins in their playoff-opening game. At this point, it’s the kind of showing that we expect from one of the league’s elite who had 106 catches for 1,284 yards and 12 TDs this season.

His 2010 Rookie Cards show him fresh out of Central Michigan and can be found in more than 20 brands that season, including Absolute Memorabilia, Bowman Sterling, Certified, Classics, Crown Royale, Donruss Elite, Epix, Exquisite Collection, Limited, Gridiron Gear, Plates & Patches, Threads, Contenders, National Treasures, Prestige, Rookies & Stars, SP Authentic, SPx, Score and Sweet Spot. You can expect to pay top dollar for anything of him that’s relatively rare and his auto RCs (Exquisite, Plates & Patches, Contenders, National Treasures, SPA and SPx) will be even more volatile and in-demand. It just comes with the territory.

Buzz Poll: Assess the 2016 NFL season with our latest questions

dak-prescott-ezekiel-elliott-2016-panini-infinity

The regular season is now over in the NFL and that means one thing — we now have final stats.

Ok, ok … it also means the playoffs.

But for many rookies and players who are important in the hobby and may not be playing this weekend, those final stats are one way to assess whether we should continue to sink our dollars into their cards. Two rookies of note in 2016, Dallas’ Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, will still be playing and they lead off our first of 13 Buzz Poll questions all about the NFL this year.

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley signs first certified autographs

The last time we checked in on Cole Beasley here on The Buzz he was small but powerful on TV and on cardboard.

Sunday Superstars: Week 5 notables include Ezekiel Elliott, Tom Brady, T.Y. Hilton, Sammie Coates & more

elliott

While there might be a quarterback controversy brewing in The Big D, there’s no doubting who the top RB is for the Dallas Cowboys after a 30-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.

It’s Ezekiel Elliott and his 134-yard, two-touchdown day has cemented him as one of the front-runners among rookies this season — on a historic level, too.

According to Elias, his 546 rushing yards this season are the fifth-best total in NFL history for the first five games of a player’s career. The only better starts are Eric Dickerson (645 yards), Adrian Peterson (607), Todd Gurley (575) and Billy Sims (560). That’s not bad company — and that’s good news for Elliott’s cardboard given how Gurley looked last year.

Sunday Superstars: Week 4 standouts include Julio Jones, Ezekiel Elliott, A.J. Green & more

julio-Jones

The Atlanta Falcons’ 48-33 win over the reigning NFC champs on Sunday had plenty of offensive fireworks, but two players stood above the rest. Matt Ryan‘s 503 passing yards and 048_pi_nfl_m_ryan_basefour TDs were impressive but what was even more impressive is that Julio Jones was responsible for 300 of them.

Jones’ 12-catch day came 37 yards short of setting an NFL record for most receiving yards in a game with his 300 being the sixth-best game in league history. Willie “Flipper” Anderson set the mark with 336 in a game against the Saints back in 1989.

Not a bad day … especially for a guy who hasn’t signed a heavy amount of autographs in his six years as a pro.

Sunday Superstars: Week 3 standouts include Marvin Jones, Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz & more

s-l1600

Six catches, 205 yards and two touchdowns. That was the stat line for Detroit Lions receiver Marvin Jones Jr. on Sunday during a 34-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

How good was that career night? As a rookie with the Bengals in 2012, it took him 11 games and 18 catches to total 201 yards — and he only had one touchdown back then. Even last season he had just 816 yards receiving on 65 catches. (Welcome to Detroit.)

Seemingly out of nowhere, he has back-to-back 100-yard games — that should be good for his cardboard, which is pretty plentiful from that rookie season.

Julio Jones & Kirk Cousins among NFL’s most Buzz-worthy players in Week 16

julio-JonesThe Atlanta Falcons took a 7-7 record into their game against the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday and thanks to one guy’s one big play they recorded their biggest win of the season.

The player was WR Julio Jones and the play was a 70-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter — the biggest part of a nine-catch, 178-yard day. Jones has been one of the better receivers in the league, but this is one play for the highlight reels that could live on for some time.

His Rookie Cards can be found back in 2011 products and, in general, his autographs aren’t all that plentiful. Combine that with interest from his past Alabama Crimson Tide fans and some of those early cards can be tougher to find.

Buzz List: Five NFL players to watch in Week 13

CamNewtonWith the Patriots jettisoned from the unbeaten ranks, all eyes are on MVP candidate Cam Newton as his 11-0 Carolina Panthers take on the high-powered offense and no-powered defense of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.

Newton has thrown for 2,466 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, scoring seven more times on the ground. His 2011 Rookie Cards have to be among the most-watched right now, too, with Topps Chrome and Panini Contenders autos among perennial favorites with more tradition-minded collectors who can’t swing for the high-end brands. (Or maybe that’s just Buzz.)

Something wants Buzz to call an upset here because the Saints have potential on offense, but … we’ll see.
