Could Jada Toys’ Nano Metalfigs be a super-cheap collectible hit?

Simplicity, portability, affordability and the chase.

This collector found himself in the toy aisle of a chain store this week and noticed something relatively new that hadn’t caught my attention before. At a glance I was interested and instantly found myself scouring the pegs for something that ended up not being there.

It was a section of Jada Toys‘ new Nano Metalfigs that are available for a few different realms — DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Disney/Pixar, Street Fighter, Harry Potter — and they’re tiny metal sculptures that come in packages just like the big kids’ toys but they don’t come with a big price.

They’ve probably been around for some collectible genres I don’t watch all that closely, but the first wave of the new WWE figures caught my eye simply because they were so small … and so cheap.

Curiosity got me.

When Pasadena, Calif.-based Loot Crate recently announced its first crate that’s a tad closer to the sports (entertainment) realm than most of its mystery box offerings — the WWE Slam Crate — this fan decided to sign up and see what was to come.

Topps Now cards coming for WWE fans after SummerSlam on Sunday (plus ongoing gallery here)

The action of World Wrestling Entertainment is coming to Topps Now with five match-specific cards for this weekend’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.

The launch of 2016 Topps Now WWE will begin with a final 24-hour window beginning on Monday for the cards, which will be made to order. For the launch, Topps has started with a pre-sale (no images) window beginning today.

“WWE is the perfect fit to incorporate into the TOPPS Now program immediately,” said Jeff Heckman, Topps’ Director of New Product Development and eCommerce Marketplace. “The WWE Universe can now have their favorite moments captured with Topps Now WWE for a collectable to treasure forever.”

But this? This is just ugly.
