Postseason Superstars: This week’s icons include Antonio Brown, Aaron Rodgers & more … and who’s next?

AntonioBrown

Five catches, 124 years and two touchdowns.

That’s the final line for Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown in Sunday’s 30-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins in their playoff-opening game. At this point, it’s the kind of showing that we expect from one of the league’s elite who had 106 catches for 1,284 yards and 12 TDs this season.

His 2010 Rookie Cards show him fresh out of Central Michigan and can be found in more than 20 brands that season, including Absolute Memorabilia, Bowman Sterling, Certified, Classics, Crown Royale, Donruss Elite, Epix, Exquisite Collection, Limited, Gridiron Gear, Plates & Patches, Threads, Contenders, National Treasures, Prestige, Rookies & Stars, SP Authentic, SPx, Score and Sweet Spot. You can expect to pay top dollar for anything of him that’s relatively rare and his auto RCs (Exquisite, Plates & Patches, Contenders, National Treasures, SPA and SPx) will be even more volatile and in-demand. It just comes with the territory.

Brock Osweiler heads to Houston … does it matter for his football cards?

brock-osweilerFirst Peyton Manning, now Brock Osweiler.

The Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos have lost their second quarterback this week as Osweiler will be joining the Houston Texans, according to the NFL Network. It will be a four-year deal for $72 million — a risk the Broncos apparently weren’t willing to take.

Of all the moves agreed to and to come as a new season officially begins today, this and perhaps the DeMarco Murray trade have some hobby potential. Many others, though, don’t figure to matter much on cardboard. Heck, some of the big names signing with new teams — Malik Jackson, for example — don’t even have cards.

Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Thomas Rawls, Doug Martin among NFL’s Buzz-worthy in Week 11

Winston
The NFL’s newest emerging name — Seattle RB Thomas Rawls — ran for 209 yards and a touchdown and added three catches for 46 yards and a score. But — and this is a big but for collectors — he doesn’t have a single legitimate NFL card, so we’re stuck with this guy. It turns out that “this guy,” aka Tampa Bay Bucs QB Jameis Winston, had a record-setting day for his team with five touchdowns and 246 yards passing in a 45-17 win over the Eagles. Is he that good — or are they that bad? Doesn’t matter on cardboard as he’ll continue to be one of the rookies collectors hope to find in this year’s football boxes.

Buzz List: Five NFL players to watch this week

JohnnyManzielThe Pittsburgh Steelers will likely be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday when they take on the Cleveland Browns and that team’s likely QB is our pick for a prime player to watch on Sunday. He’s “Johnny Football,” Johnny Manziel, who completed 15 of 33 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown in a 31-10 loss on Nov. 5.

Could a decent game against an AFC rival be enough to spark interest — or at least some optimistic hype — in a guy who was an unquestioned top rookie on cardboard last year? And what about a good game? Buzz thinks that could re-ignite some serious interest.
