Not long after Upper Deck‘s 2015-16 Ultimate Collection hockey set arrives in hobby shops on Aug. 31, it will also appear on the company’s e-Pack platform that allows collectors without hobby shops to rip in virtually with a shot at cards in reality.
But what about the 1/1 creations? Upper Deck has addressed its plans for the high-end brand.
The aliens are going electronic on Wednesday.
Upper Deck revealed on Monday that its recently released (and sold out) Alien Anthology product will be coming to its electronic e-Pack platform with insert cards, actor autographs, dog tag cards, sketch cards and more that can be sent to them. The launch begins at San Diego Comic-Con.
“We have been working diligently to be able to announce the momentous release of Alien Anthology on e-Pack at Comic-Con, which brings together some of the most passionate fans and collectors in our industry,” said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. “We strive to bring collectors the most innovative new products, and the release of Alien Anthology on e-Pack allows us to give fans a pack opening experience like they’ve never had before.”
Upper Deck released the following statement this week to address some dealers or collectors’ concerns about its e-Pack program that launched earlier this year.
“Our goal with the program has always been to grow the hobby, and based on responses from fans participating in regions devoid of hobby shops, it appears to be working. The plan for 2015-16 NHL Upper Deck Series 2, and likely most releases going forward that have the e-Pack platform tied to them, is to provide our brick-and-mortar retailers with a window before e-Pack starts. Therefore, the earliest 2015-16 NHL Upper Deck Series 2 will be available on the e-Pack platform will be March 17. We will continue to monitor the market however to determine the best time for launch, but it will not happen before that date.
Less than 24 hours after the reveal of Upper Deck’s e-Packs, there are more than 200 Silver Foilboard parallel cards for 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1 hockey cards on COMC.com, which is the initial home of the cards in their physical form once they are pulled and stacked to be eligible for reality.
One of those cards is card No. 201 of Connor McDavid. This card was made into reality by a collector buying enough e-Packs to land five digital versions of the card and then upgrading to post on the site. There are 50 Young Guns each landing one in every four packs so you can do the math. (Young Guns are eligible to immediately be made physical as regular base cards without stacking just like inserts pulled.)
Now, the real question … how much?
