But back when Topps was putting together its 1968 baseball card set, he was just a rookie pitcher for the New York Mets — a guy who was famously forced to share his Rookie Card with a teammate, Jerry Koosman.

Alabama’s Derrick Henry might be new Heisman front-runner — and he already wins on autograph cards

DerrickHenryWhen the No. 2 LSU Tigers took on the fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night, it was supposed to be a showcase game for the Tigers’ Heisman Trophy candidate Leonard Fournette, who has been a dominating presence this season with more than 1,300 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

What it turned into after a convincing 30-16 Crimson Tide victory over the previously unbeaten Tigers was, potentially, the national arrival of Alabama RB Derrick Henry.

eBay Buzz: Sometimes buying in bulk is the way to go, right?

One-Million-Baseball-CardsImagine seeing one million baseball cards all in one location. Now, imagine those can be yours in one fell swoop.

They can.

It can be reality in one active eBay auction and there’s an added bonus. What is it? They’ll throw in 100,000 free cards for your team if you choose to take this Cardboard Challenge.

Why’s it a challenge? Well, consider that the haul — and your bonus, don’t forget your bonus — amount to roughly 220 5,000-count boxes. Do you have the space? (It might also be a challenge if it’s heavy on 1989 Score stripped of the stars … but disregard this thought.)

Now, the real question is, do you have the cash? Don’t worry about shipping — it’s free!
(You get to pick it all up and haul it off, so set your GPS for Manville, N.Y.)

eBay Buzz: Bryce Harper’s Topps Bunt virtual auto went for what?

ToppsBunt600

Topps Bunt is a phone app where plenty of collectors buy virtual packs of cards and then wheel and deal to land the ones they want. Some are easy to find, others are not.

This Bryce Harper Signature Card was an award — given out to those who completed a collecting challenge in the game — and it’s limited to only 16 copies.

Just like real cardboard with Harper’s autograph on them, there’s big interest in rare cards of the likely National League MVP. This card commanded a few bucks as the rights to the card were sold on eBay — something that’s been a pretty common occurrence in the last couple of years as more and more baseball fans try out the app.

How much did it go for? You wouldn’t believe it unless you saw it. (The actual amount paid was $299 less than that posted price, but … still.)

eBay Buzz: High-grade 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle draws attention

MickeyMantlePSA8ebay

A PSA 8 copy of the most-iconic Topps baseball card has hit the auction block via PWCC on eBay and there have been more than 30 bids raising the price to more than a quarter-million dollars.

That’s so far.

The auction for the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle has more than nine days to go before it closes. How much is it presently up to? Click here for the latest view.

A PSA 8 copy of the card sold via Goldin Auctions earlier this year for just over $400,000. Only 32 copies of more than 1,100 graded have gotten a PSA 8 mark. Only nine cards have graded higher — three  of those being PSA 10s.
