Wrestling fans get trading card app with debut of Topps WWE Slam

Topps and WWE have joined forces to launch a virtual trading card app for fans of the squared circle.

Topps WWE Slam launched on Thursday for iOS and Android devices, allowing fans to collect and trade virtual cardboard as well as buy tokens to acquire even more packs of cards besides their daily allowance.

“WWE has been an incredible partner with Topps for many years, and we are thrilled to be able to offer WWE fans worldwide a new way to collect their favorite WWE Superstars from today and the past,” said Jeremy Strauser, Vice President and General Manager of Topps Digital. “WWE has been at the forefront of pop culture and entertainment for many years and we are excited to add WWE Slam to the Topps apps portfolio.”

UFC’s stars get card app of their own from Topps with UFC Knockout 16

Topps and UFC announced on Thursday the launch of UFC Knockout 16 as its newest trading card app where fans can purchase and collect cards of their favorite fighters in digital form.

“We’re excited to expand on our relationship with the UFC by introducing engaging and easily accessible digital trading cards to keep up with the demand of UFC fans around the world,” said Jeremy Strauser, Vice President and General Manager of Topps Digital. “We see the enormous impact and global popularity of the UFC, so UFC Knockout 16 is a natural fit for Topps’ apps portfolio.”

eBay Buzz: Bryce Harper’s Topps Bunt virtual auto went for what?

Topps Bunt is a phone app where plenty of collectors buy virtual packs of cards and then wheel and deal to land the ones they want. Some are easy to find, others are not.

This Bryce Harper Signature Card was an award — given out to those who completed a collecting challenge in the game — and it’s limited to only 16 copies.

Just like real cardboard with Harper’s autograph on them, there’s big interest in rare cards of the likely National League MVP. This card commanded a few bucks as the rights to the card were sold on eBay — something that’s been a pretty common occurrence in the last couple of years as more and more baseball fans try out the app.

How much did it go for? You wouldn’t believe it unless you saw it. (The actual amount paid was $299 less than that posted price, but … still.)
