Jackie Robinson’s first MLB contract to hit auction block in November

It’s a signature that helped change the world, and it’s hitting the auction block in November.

It the autograph that adorns Jackie Robinson‘s contract to join the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 11, 1947, and it will be sold along with his Montreal Royals contract from 1945 at the museum that carries his name on Nov. 16 in New York City as part of a sale handled by Goldin Auctions.

“There are many documents on display in museums that represent seminal moments in history which forever changed America such as The Declaration of Independence, The Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation,” said Ken Goldin, owner of Goldin Auctions. “But most historians believe that the integration of baseball with the signing of Jackie Robinson had as great an impact on America as any other moment in history.

“In fact, Martin Luther King called Robinson the founder of the Civil rights movement. Bringing the most important baseball document and the founding document of the Civil Rights movement to auction is an awesome responsibility and we are honored to help find them a permanent home for future generation to enjoy.”

Rare Kris Bryant autos, party passes, sketches & cuts command cash from Topps’ historic Transcendent release

2017-topps-transcendent-collection-baseball-case

With 52 autographs in every box — as well as a posh party invitation — it doesn’t take a lot to see the dollar signs inside each $25,000 box of 2016 Topps Transcendent Collection baseball cards.

s-l1600-3Those invites alone get a good chunk of change back (details here) and each case’s 1/1 Kris Bryant autograph using one of the 65 historic Topps designs commands some, too. Those cards have sold for as much as $2,182 on eBay (so far) and all seven sold have gone for at least $1,000.

Meanwhile, the asking or bid prices in current auctions are over the $1,000 mark in all but one instance and range as high as $7,250 for those in the historic set.

But the priciest find found inside one of those 65 silver briefcases? It’s much more impressive.

Topps’ Jackie Robinson Edition baseball sets from 2013 include shot at Superfractors, cut autographs

2013-topps-jackie-robinson-chrome-1952Many of us can’t afford to land a copy of Jackie Robinson’s iconic 1952 Topps card — his first Topps card that sells for hundreds in low grade and thousands in high grade — but a Jackie Robinson Day special today from Blowout Cards gives us all a shot at the next-best thing.

Roberto Clemente & the Dodgers? Yep, and there’s a baseball card …

Roberto-Clemente-DodgersWe all know Roberto Clemente as a legendary member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and a Hall of Famer who helped pave the way for Latin American players in MLB.

However, it was today back in 1954 when he signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers and became a member of the Montreal Royals — the team where Jackie Robinson had started before he broke MLB’s color barrier in 1947. The move was largely to block Clemente from being signed by the New York Giants.

Veteran collectors know there’s even a baseball card showing this.
