Black November Wave 8 is here — and here are five deals to consider

2015pnprizmbb

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com’s Black November Wave 8 hits today.

Many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes that caught this collector’s eye.

2015 Panini Prizm baseball hobby box
BryantYou won’t find as many packs in these boxes, but you’ll find two autographs and more than one parallel or insert card in nearly every single pack. The Prizm rainbow here is as strong as it gets and there are plenty of big names to be found among a young crop of signers and a number of big past names — Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Corey Seager, Addison Russell, Joc Pederson, Steven Moya, David Price, Will Clark, Jose Canseco and plenty more. It’s not as cheap as it used to be as these boxes have heated up some but they’ll remain a fun option to rip as long as they are still around.

Sunday Superstars: Week 7 icons Jay Ajayi, Jeremy Hill, Julio Jones & more

jay-ajayi

Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi racked up 214 rushing yards on 28 carries Sunday against Buffalo to walk his way into some elite NFL company.

He became just the fourth player in the history of the league to rush for 200 yards in back-to-back games. The others? O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams. Not bad company for the former Boise State star who’s in his second season after being a fifth-round draft pick last year.

His cards are relatively available with more than 1,500 different cards made since last year and more than 750 of those being certified autographs. He has 40 Rookie Cards in a number of brands from Panini America and Topps last year.

Sunday Superstars: Week 3 standouts include Marvin Jones, Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz & more

s-l1600

Six catches, 205 yards and two touchdowns. That was the stat line for Detroit Lions receiver Marvin Jones Jr. on Sunday during a 34-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

How good was that career night? As a rookie with the Bengals in 2012, it took him 11 games and 18 catches to total 201 yards — and he only had one touchdown back then. Even last season he had just 816 yards receiving on 65 catches. (Welcome to Detroit.)

Seemingly out of nowhere, he has back-to-back 100-yard games — that should be good for his cardboard, which is pretty plentiful from that rookie season.

Need a collecting challenge? 2014 Topps Turkey Red football has some

bridgewaterWhat happens when you have a retail-only, hit-per-pack product that can be condition sensitive with a likely modest print run and sometimes-rocky collation? A super collecting challenge — and a product that is available now at an outrageous price as part of Blowout Cards’ Super Bowl 50 sale coinciding with the big game.

How outrageous? Keep reading …

2014tpturkeyredFBThe 2014 Topps Turkey Red football set presents a collecting challenge with some surprisingly expensive cards — even for rookies who may not have lived up to expectations. Need an example of how expensive? Click here. Yep, that much … even for Johnny Manziel. And one expensive card that’s unsigned? Click here.

There aren’t that many $100 cards popping out of retail packs regularly, but these two cards are not alone in Turkey Red. In fact that second sale above might be underselling the card based on scarcity. Overall, it seems autograph asking prices are healthy, too.

Buzz List: Five NFL players to watch in Week 13

CamNewtonWith the Patriots jettisoned from the unbeaten ranks, all eyes are on MVP candidate Cam Newton as his 11-0 Carolina Panthers take on the high-powered offense and no-powered defense of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.

Newton has thrown for 2,466 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, scoring seven more times on the ground. His 2011 Rookie Cards have to be among the most-watched right now, too, with Topps Chrome and Panini Contenders autos among perennial favorites with more tradition-minded collectors who can’t swing for the high-end brands. (Or maybe that’s just Buzz.)

Something wants Buzz to call an upset here because the Saints have potential on offense, but … we’ll see.

Keep reading for four more guys to watch on Sunday.
