If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com’s Black November Wave 8 hits today.
Many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes that caught this collector’s eye.
2015 Panini Prizm baseball hobby box
You won’t find as many packs in these boxes, but you’ll find two autographs and more than one parallel or insert card in nearly every single pack. The Prizm rainbow here is as strong as it gets and there are plenty of big names to be found among a young crop of signers and a number of big past names — Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Corey Seager, Addison Russell, Joc Pederson, Steven Moya, David Price, Will Clark, Jose Canseco and plenty more. It’s not as cheap as it used to be as these boxes have heated up some but they’ll remain a fun option to rip as long as they are still around.

2014 Panini Elite Extra Edition baseball hobby box
There are plenty of autographs to be found in boxes of this one — and there are Hot Boxes that up the ante, too — but right now there’s one autograph that arguably stands out from the rest.
It’s Kyle Schwarber. The Chicago Cubs’ slugger makes his debut here and has a solid amount of available ink inside the wrappers thanks to the standard autos and parallels atop that.
Other signers here include a heavy-selling Trea Turner, Kris Bryant, Byron Buxton, Michael Conforto, Luis Severino and plenty more (though some of those big names are as insert autos). Also in play here is an under-rated Cuban National Team memorabilia card of Jose Abreu with a piece of his national team jersey — that’s quite unique in the hobby aside from World Baseball Classic releases.
At its reduced price, this one’s worth the shot — and it’s not alone.

One of the biggest football auctions of the year is set for Friday and Saturday as Hunt Auctions continues its traditional Super Bowl sale.
The Super Bowl 50 Live Auction will be at the Moscone Center in San Francisco with more than 900 lots including modern-day game-dated memorabilia like the J.J. Watt Houston Texans gamer above — a jersey with a hefty price already in early bidding — and pieces from football’s early years. too.

Steiner Sports knows that Cleveland Browns fans have had a tough time collecting autographs of good quarterbacks lately and the New Rochelle, N.Y.-based autograph and memorabilia company announced a new program Thursday that may help take away some of the collecting pain caused by Johnny Football — and a few other notably bad quarterbacks in the team’s past, too.

On Christmas Day, a film about the issue of concussions in football called Concussion opens in theaters. You’ve probably seen the commercials for the film during NFL games.

It’s a real-life issue that has affected more than 80 former players — many you’ve seen on football cards and might have collected. With the Patriots jettisoned from the unbeaten ranks, all eyes are on MVP candidate Cam Newton as his 11-0 Carolina Panthers take on the high-powered offense and no-powered defense of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
Newton has thrown for 2,466 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, scoring seven more times on the ground. His 2011 Rookie Cards have to be among the most-watched right now, too, with Topps Chrome and Panini Contenders autos among perennial favorites with more tradition-minded collectors who can’t swing for the high-end brands. The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday when they take on the Cleveland Browns and that team’s likely QB is our pick for a prime player to watch on Sunday. He’s “Johnny Football,” Johnny Manziel, who completed 15 of 33 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown in a 31-10 loss on Nov. 5.
