Million Dollar Arm’s Rinku Singh starts WWE career today

You may be seeing Rinku Singh on cardboard once again.

Back in 2009, he was one of two pitchers signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Lucknow, India, and their stories of how that happened ended up becoming a Disney movie. But today he joins professional wrestling hopefuls under contract at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla.

No, seriously.

Star Wars has made its mark in sports merchandising (gallery)

We all know that Friday is a big day in the film world with the arrival of the next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi.

It’s a behemoth we’ve seen teased on TV and online for months — and even longer in the toy aisles — and now that we’re days away from its release there’s even more to potentially be seen and heard about the latest chapter in the legendary franchise. But, like spoilers, I’ve tried my best to avoid most of it — all of the merchandising and marketing that can include everything from food to car commercials and then all that stuff in the toy aisle.

So, maybe it’s just my situation — it’s a black hole of sorts I don’t want sucked into because there’s just too much I’d potentially want but ultimately don’t really need — but when I saw that there was a massive amount of sports-related Star Wars items in one online location I didn’t expect?

Well, that’s why we’re here …

Black November Wave 4 is here … and here are five deals to consider

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices right now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com is in the midst its Black November sales now.

Wave 4 is here and many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes/cases that caught this collector’s eye.

2016 Topps Heritage Minor League Baseball hobby box
You may not recognize the uniforms here but they’re creative — and wearing them are names you should know with guys like Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Rhys Hoskins on the checklist. The crop of players here is pretty strong and so is the signers list in a product that takes the 1967 Topps design back to the minor leagues. Atop the signers list that includes Dansby Swanson, Andrew Benintendi, Alex Bregman, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout for starters, they’re all on-card autographs here. A couple of boxes should get you a basic base set and a number of the inserts that this one includes. It’s a simple but fun break and you can see a sample box here.

Rafael Devers’ hot late start means long wait for 2018 Rookie Cards — but he’s got plenty to chase now

You’ll have to wait until 2018 for his official Rookie Cards, but, don’t worry, he’s got plenty you can collect for now.

His name is Rafael Devers and he’s also got six home runs in his first 62 at-bats for the Boston Red Sox and, most importantly, three of those have come in his last two games against the New York Yankees.

The 20-year-old third baseman is hitting .339 with 12 RBI, 11 runs and a stolen base in his first 16 games — and he’s got to be among the league leaders in pre-RC cardboard, too.

Michael Chavis’ power surge comes two years after his last certified ink

He’s not exactly a come-from-nowhere player, but the power is coming through for one Boston Red Sox minor-leaguer.

Michael Chavis hit his 14th home run of the season Sunday for High-A Salem — and actually his 13th, too, since it was his third multi-homer game of the year. That’s just two-shy of his career-high from two years ago in 109 games.

He’s hitting .343 through 47 games (so that home run pace looks even stronger) and the good news here is that he’s just 21 years old since he was just 18 back in 2014 when Boston took him with the 26th overall pick.

Tim Tebow’s first official MiLB card is a short-printed scorcher

Don’t tell his fans that he’s just another minor league baseball player.

Tim Tebow‘s first baseball card as a member of the Columbia Fireflies isn’t an easy pull from packs of 2017 Topps Pro Debut baseball cards but it’s a pricey one.

As in $400 — and that’s without an autograph or piece of game-used memorabilia attached. And that’s not a fluke as active auctions are just as strong.

Without legend of Steve Dalkowski there might not be a Bull Durham … let alone thoughts of Bull Durham 2

steve-dalkowski-1963-topps

In an interview with Dan Patrick this week, Kevin Costner said he’d be opening to reprising the role of Crash Davis in Bull Durham 2 if creator Ron Shelton was open to the idea and could draft the next chapter in the story of big-screen players that have become minor-league baseball icons.

But there’s one cardboard icon in the real world who’s partly responsible for the creation of the 1988 film in the first place.

He’s Steve Dalkowski.
