Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s autograph isn’t hard to land after retirement news

Dale Earnhardt Jr. — NASCAR’s most-popular driver — will be retiring after this season ends.

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com’s Black November Wave 2 hits today.

Many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes that caught this collector’s eye.

2015 Topps baseball Mega Box case
This is the only place to find cards from the 50-card 2015 Topps Chrome Update set and buying by the case is probably the best way for a shot at key rookie parallels and autographs/Relics. Among the notables here? Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa and Francisco Lindor. Statistically there should be at least one Relic per case but the real chase are those key players and their parallels. You get five packs of standard Topps Update and only two packs of Chrome Update but it’s worth it if you buy by the case here — though there is a limit.

The company added a section for 2016-17 Panini Instant NASCAR cards to its real-time trading card section of its website this week, leaving open the question of just how soon we’ll see even more racing cardboard.  The Sprint Cup Chase for the Cup begins on Sept. 18 at Chicagoland Speedway, which might make for a logical starting point — however, it’s likely that it could come sooner.

The standard cards are made to order and there are several numbered parallels per card — and all of them are only available for 24 hours via Panini’s website.

Bryan Clauson’s short time in NASCAR reflected on a few cards

Clauson1Bryan Clauson raced on many circuits during his career — a resume that included multiple appearances in the Indy 500, a couple seasons in NASCAR’s Nationwide (now Xfinity) Series, two season titles in the USAC sprint car series and three season championships in USAC midget series, where was the defending champ this year.

He was a regular on dirt tracks and that’s where he suffered injuries in a race and died on Sunday night at age 27.

“This is truly one of the darkest days in the 60-year history of the United States Auto Club,” USAC CEO Kevin Miller told USA Today. “Not only have we lost one of our greatest USAC champions, we’ve lost a true ambassador for all of motor sports.”
