Adrian Clayborn’s six-sack game could spark interest in past cards — and his lone (sort of) Falcons auto

Want to collect someone who’s very affordable and relatively solid on the field?

Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn made a case for himself on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys when he did something that’s only been equaled or topped by three other players since 1982 when the sack became an official NFL stat. He had six sacks of Dak Prescott — just one short of the NFL record — and he wasn’t boisterous about the big game afterward.

“I only have one move and it worked,” Clayborn told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I play the same way every game and it lucked out for me today.”

When can group breaks get really good? When high-end dips in price …

The days of “something for nothing” are as gone as 45-cent wax packs in today’s card world, but group breaks via outlets such as BlowoutTV can offer up some surprises.

Particularly when high-end products go lower-end in price — or at least as low as they can go — and that’s where group breaks help out a lot.

One such example? The 2016 Panini National Treasures release, which is selling at less than half of its original price — but with plenty of the big cards still in there as they were when it was packed out last year.

Bo Derek & Joe Namath in an NBA box? Yep, thanks to Panini Rewards …

A funny thing happened recently when I ripped into a box of 2016-17 Panini Studio basketball cards.

I pulled cards of Joe Namath and Bo Derek.

No, really. My Derek was an autograph and my Namath was a patch card from a Los Angeles Rams jersey — cards that I’d always eyed here and there but didn’t expect to be able to land from a box of NBA cards.

How’d it happen? I pulled them via Panini Rewards points.

Panini acknowledges error on three National Treasures patch cards

Three legendary cards in 2016 Panini National Treasures have a mistake — and Panini America will fix them for a collector who finds one.

One is a NFL Gear Quads Laundry Tag of four legendary quarterbacks — Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Tom Brady and John Elway. The mistake occurred during production as the card’s labeling should indicate that some of the players’ tags are from player-used and not game-worn jerseys.

“We are disappointed the error occurred, but it was truly an honest mistake with no intention of trying to mislead our customers,” reads a statement from the company. “All other parallel levels of these cards do contain game-worn material, and this mistake occurred because the laundry tag reservations from the player-worn jerseys were missed when routing the cards for approval. Obviously, this is something that we will be more diligent about in the future.”

It’s about time for a Peyton Manning & Papa John autographed card

PapaJohnsMaybe it’s just the National Pizza Day buzz at work here — or maybe some of those Papa John’s commercials during NFL games — but Buzz has to wonder what kind of demand there might be for a Peyton Manning & John Schnatter dual autograph card.

PocketChangeMaybe it’s just a cheesy idea, but Buzz knows it wouldn’t sell for pocket change if we found Manning and the world’s most-famous pizza-selling football fan on a National Treasures card from Panini America. Buzz has imagined it above. Heck, maybe he’d be game for some kind of Ball State (where he went to school) or a Louisville college card, too? (The Cardinals play at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.)

It would be a fun, memorable and valuable football card if it became a reality — one that might dwarf any other Manning autograph out there, too, simply because it’s something unique. Maybe J.J. Watt, Joe Montana and other NFL players who have had pizza ties could get in on the action, too?

Buzz Poll: How would you grade this autographed Brett Favre card?

BrettFavre“The Gunslinger” Brett Favre was among the players named to this year’s Hall of Fame class on Saturday night, meaning he’ll be forever enshrined in Canton later this year.

One card pulled in recent days by a collector is this 2015 Panini National Treasures College Notable Nicknames card — one of only a few cards showing him at Southern Mississippi that’s signed and one of even fewer that’s signed and inscribed. (And it’s pricey.)

Buzz thinks this is close to a perfect piece of cardboard and wonders what you think … grade this card.

So, that’s a nice Steph Curry National Treasures card … but $149,999 nice?

Steph-Curry
We should all know by now how good Stephen Curry is by his play on the basketball court.

But maybe we should look at his basketball cards, too.

The reigning league MVP and leader of the defending NBA champs has been hot on cardboard for a while now. How hot? Well, you might call it new-car hot as his high-end rare cards are often priced in small-new-car territory.

Antonio Brown, Kellen Moore & Ryan Tannehill among NFL’s most Buzz-worthy players in Week 17

Moore-KellenThe Dallas Cowboys’ QB put up impressive numbers in a game that was never even close — but they still count.

Kellen Moore threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns (also throwing two picks and losing a fumble) in a 34-23 loss to Washington on Sunday, marking the end of a dismal season for the Cowboys and his last chance to make an impression on collectors before Tony Romo returns from injury next season. He ends the year with just four TDs and six picks since he only played in two other games this season — all losses.

Will a game like this breath some long-term life into his 2012 Rookie Cards? Probably not, but it’s a reminder that a good game can bring the spotlight to anyone in any week in the NFL — so he gets the nod here.
