Black November Wave 7 is here — and here are five deals to consider

2013pnperedraftrbb

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com’s Black November Wave 7 hits today.

Many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes that caught this collector’s eye.

2013 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks baseball hobby box
Every box of this one includes four autographs, three inserts and six Prizm parallels — that’s not a lot and Panini America added more in subsequent Prizm releases but there are a couple of names that make this box notable at its reduced price. They are Kris Bryant and Mookie Betts and both of those MVP candidates can be found within the Prizm rainbow of autographs here. Others of note within these packs? Carlos Correa, Joc Pederson, Clint Frazier, Byron Buxton, Clint Frazier, Maikel Franco, Jose Abreu and Aaron Judge. The right rare shade here could be easy profits based on the box prices.

Father’s Day is perfect day to learn more about Ernie Johnson

ernie-johnson-voices-of-game-autoYou probably know him as the host of Inside the NBA, the postgame show for NBA on TNT broadcasts, but there’s a lot you may not know about Ernie Johnson that are perfect for this Father’s Day.

Ernie-Johnson-1954-BowmanThose around the Atlanta area may know that he’s the son of a former Milwaukee Braves pitcher and long-time Atlanta Braves announcer, Ernie Johnson Sr., who, after a nine-year MLB career, covered the team for more than 30 years. He’s one of 29 members of the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame after he was inducted in 2001.

The father appears on nearly 30 baseball cards with his Rookie Card coming in the 1954 Bowman set and his final regular-issue card in the 1960 Topps set. The son appears on just two cards — one in the 1990-91 Hoops Announcers set, which is a rare card for its era, and the 2014-15 Panini Threads Voices of the Game autograph above.

But all of this isn’t why Father’s Day is the perfect time to learn more about a broadcaster and three-time Emmy Award winner we’ve heard plenty from since 1989.

Kristaps Porzingis a big deal in The Big Apple — and that makes him a big deal on basketball cards

PortzingusPrestigeHe might be the biggest thing going in The Big Apple right now — and that makes him a big deal on cardboard.

His name is Kristaps Porzingis and he’s playing so well for the New York Knicks right now that the team’s marquee player, Carmelo Anthony, has already dubbed him the future of the franchise.

“He’s going to lead this organization long after I’m retired,” Anthony said in an SI.com story today. “Hopefully we can hoist one or two [championship trophies] before that happens.”
