LeBron James will make a little NBA history tonight in San Antonio

When he arrived in the NBA back in 2003, he already was known as “The Chosen One” and just a couple years later people were pondering whether he was the best ever.

Then, he took his talents to South Beach, won a couple of NBA titles and then returned to where it all started for him and won a championship in Cleveland where there hadn’t been successes like that since the 1960s for any sport. His cardboard? It’s been among the royalty of the NBA since Day 1 — this isn’t about that.

But tonight in San Antonio LeBron James will likely make a different kind of NBA history but is just as significant (if not more so) from a historical perspective.

Boston Celtics and NBA lose legend as Jo Jo White dies at 71

One of the NBA’s greatest teams has lost one of its greats.

Hall of Famer Jo Jo White who won two championship rings and was the NBA Finals MVP in 1976 as part of a 12-year career with the Celtics, Warriors and Kings has died after battling several health issues for years. He was 71.

“He was a champion and a gentleman; supremely talented and brilliant on the court, and endlessly gracious off of it,” the Boston Celtics said in a statement. “His contributions to the team’s championship legacy may have only been surpassed by the deep and lasting impact that he had in the community. The thoughts and sympathies of the entire Celtics organization are with the White family.”

Dick Enberg’s legendary career includes very few card appearances

One of the familiar voices in all of the sports world — a long-time broadcaster for NBC, CBS and ESPN who covered Wimbledon 28 times, covered 10 Super Bowls and covered eight NCAA men’s basketball championships along with much, much more — has been silenced.

Dick Enberg was 82.

Despite a Hall of Fame career and plenty of time in homes on TV since the 1960s when he covered John Wooden‘s UCLA Bruins, he’s only got a handful of sports card appearances from the past — and, of those, really only one is easy to find.
