Black November Wave 8 is here — and here are five deals to consider

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com’s Black November Wave 8 hits today.

Many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes that caught this collector’s eye.

You won’t find as many packs in these boxes, but you’ll find two autographs and more than one parallel or insert card in nearly every single pack. The Prizm rainbow here is as strong as it gets and there are plenty of big names to be found among a young crop of signers and a number of big past names — Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Corey Seager, Addison Russell, Joc Pederson, Steven Moya, David Price, Will Clark, Jose Canseco and plenty more. It’s not as cheap as it used to be as these boxes have heated up some but they’ll remain a fun option to rip as long as they are still around.

The 2014 Topps Turkey Red football set presents a collecting challenge with some surprisingly expensive cards — even for rookies who may not have lived up to expectations. Need an example of how expensive? There aren’t that many $100 cards popping out of retail packs regularly, but these two cards are not alone in Turkey Red. In fact that second sale above might be underselling the card based on scarcity. Overall, it seems autograph asking prices are healthy, too.

Auction Gallery: Hunt’s Super Bowl 50 event packs serious history

One of the biggest football auctions of the year is set for Friday and Saturday as Hunt Auctions continues its traditional Super Bowl sale.

The Super Bowl 50 Live Auction will be at the Moscone Center in San Francisco with more than 900 lots including modern-day game-dated memorabilia like the J.J. Watt Houston Texans gamer above — a jersey with a hefty price already in early bidding — and pieces from football’s early years. too.

Because of its high profile as part of the NFL Experience show, prices can be pretty strong once the auctions close.

Buzz List: Eight NFL players to watch this weekend

The NFL’s postseason kicks off with four games this weekend and it seems each of them have players to watch when it comes to collecting football cards.

Here’s one player from all eight teams Buzz says could be of interest — some obvious, some not.

J.J. Watt — The Houston Texans’ defensive dynamo and part-time tight end is basically a household name with his bloody noses and his Papa John’s commercials, but when it comes to autographed Rookie Cards he might be overvalued. He’s one of very few defensive stars to really get attention when it comes to cards, so it would take a monster game against the Chiefs to make those Contenders Rookie Cards even better buys. Sorry for the bad news there. (Maybe him being able to successfully complete a pizza curl in a follow-up Papa John’s commercial would help?)
