Panini readies Reggie Miller’s first NBA autos since 2004-05 season

Scan through boxes of NBA cards and odds are you’ll find a Reggie Miller card or two — he’s got more than 2,000 different ones — but there’s one kind of card you probably won’t see.

That’s one with an autograph.

That will start to change soon, though, as Panini America revealed Monday that it has landed the Indiana Pacers legend and Hall of Famer to an autograph deal to produce his first certified autographs for an NBA trading card set in more than a decade.

Buzz Poll: How does Tiger Woods’ news affect your collection?

Tiger Woods is back in the news again — and it’s not for golf.

Naturally with this development, along with his lack of time on the PGA Tour, one has to ponder the future of his cardboard. As one of the most-decorated and sought-after golf stars of all time, there’s been plenty of money put into his cardboard. He’s definitely also been one of the most sought-after autographs of anyone in the sports world … but now this.

More than a few questions come to mind … tell us what you think with our poll below or via a comment here or on Twitter.

Steven Holcomb’s life story included vision issues, Olympic gold & cards

Not that long ago, Steven Holcomb‘s Olympic dreams were challenged by failing vision and depression, but a surgery to correct his keratoconus — a disorder that had him seeing with 20/500 vision — helped make him one of the United States’ most-successful bobsledders in years.

His successes included three Olympic medals and it was was one that had been documented in a book — his autobiography, But Now I See: My Journey from Blindness to Olympic Gold — but there won’t be new chapters. He was found dead Saturday in Lake Placid, N.Y., at age 37.

“The entire Olympic family is shocked and saddened by the incredibly tragic loss today of Steven Holcomb,” U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun told The Associated Press. “Steve was a tremendous athlete and even better person, and his perseverance and achievements were an inspiration to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s family and the entire bobsledding community.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s autograph isn’t hard to land after retirement news

Dale Earnhardt Jr. — NASCAR’s most-popular driver — will be retiring after this season ends.

The 42-year-old shared his plans with his team today and a news conference is set for this afternoon to talk about his decision after 18 seasons as a driver at NASCAR’s highest level and more than 600 races.

The move shouldn’t come as a big surprise as he was sidelined with concussion issues for much of last season but that didn’t stop him from winning NASCAR’s most-popular driver award voting for the 14th straight year — the record for total wins is 16.

Happy Days’ Erin Moran signed plenty of autographs in recent years

Happy Days star Erin Moran — aka Joanie Cunningham — died on Saturday leaving behind plenty of questions as part of a mysterious tale of what went wrong in her years away from Hollywood. She was 56.

Unlike many TV stars from the past, she signed plenty of autographs for card companies that collectors can find perhaps more easily in than some of her regular cardboard and it all came in the last decade of cardboard that saw a boom in non-sports releases.

Buzz Collector Profile: Tony Yi — an Ichiro Suzuki fan aka The Ichiro Vault

Tony Yi

Also known as: @theichirovault and iamtony33 on Blowout Forum
Website: theichirovault.blogspot.com
Location: Washington
Work away from cards: Corporate management
Collecting since: 2011

Main focuses: Ichiro Suzuki, Robinson Cano and 1/1 cards — he owns 335 1/1s and 42 of those are Superfractors.
BuzzProfiles-Logo

Favorite teams: Seattle Mariners, Washington Huskies football

Current collecting projects: I used to work on rainbow projects often, and I have completed 14 of them. They have become too time-consuming so I now mainly concentrate on obtaining Ichiro, Cano and certain 1/1 cards. There is one Ichiro rainbow I will never stop trying for though and it’s from my favorite set, 2012 Topps Chrome. All I am missing is the Superfractor that sold years ago and I assume its in a PC collection forever. But if anyone knows who has it, please let me know.

Harry Caray’s Restaurant gives fans chance to collect namesake

harry-caray-glasses

If you know a Chicago Cubs fan and haven’t finished your holiday shopping, this is your post.

If you’re a fan of Major League Baseball and collecting its legends, this is your post.

A nice piece of mail — something Buzz found online and ordered this weekend — arrived on Wednesday with a surprise inside. What you see here is an oversized pair of plastic glasses — an apparent jovial bonus this holiday season with any purchase of $49 or more from 33 West Kinzie Street in Chicago.

Not familiar with the location? That’s the home of Harry Caray’s Restaurant. And, while it’s funny, this simple gift to me can’t touch what I bought.
