The global game can spark global interest in cardboard and the latest Topps soccer release shows that with a simple glimpse at the big-hit potential seen via eBay auctions.
Many of us, Buzz included, might not know all of the names found in 2016 Topps UEFA Champions League Showcase, but the big potential really does outweigh the price.
When the next Panini America soccer product arrives in January, it will bring all the international flair and fervor of The Beautiful Game, but it will take things up a notch in spots compared to its predecessor without a dramatic high-end hike in price.
The brand is 2015 Panini Select and it’s set to arrive on Jan. 6 packing three autographs or memorabilia cards per box along with a selection of inserts and parallels. The previously released 2015 Donruss soccer boxes had just one autograph per box, while Select will include the first memorabilia cards made by the company for its international soccer releases.
Manchester United captain and England star Wayne Rooney will have autographs in upcoming Topps soccer card sets the company announced on Wednesday.
They will be his first certified autographs produced by a card company based in the United States as he didn’t appear in past Upper Deck and Panini America releases. The cards will arrive in 2015 Topps Premier Gold, which arrives on Dec. 16.
“We are very excited to have a player of Wayne Rooney’s caliber sign for Topps,” said brand manager Zvee Geffen in a prepared release. “He has not signed many cards over the years and this continues to show Topps’s focus on creating the best products for soccer fans around the world.”
