Items from Whitney Houston‘s estate are currently on the auction block — a selection of awards, memorabilia, clothing and items given to the legendary performer — via Heritage Auctions as part of an entertainment and music memorabilia auction ending on June 24.
The priciest item so far? It’s not her Emmy for “Saving All My Love for You,” her Billboard Award for “I Will Always Love You” or her MTV Video Music Award for “How Will I Know?”
It’s a pair of black Air Jordan V basketball shoes.
The Jordans were personally given to her by Michael Jordan along with a personalized and inscribed copy of his book For the Love of the Game. The lot, which includes a photo of her with him and the shoes, sits at $14,000 after five bids and is estimated to sell for $20,000 or more. Even more interesting with this? The auction house believes that the shoes may be from Game 3 of the Pistons vs. Bulls showdown in the 1990 Eastern Conference Finals where Houston sang the national anthem. Photos of her from the event match the photo of her with Jordan, according to the auction listing.
Her Emmy presently sits ar $10,000, while her Monte Carlo World Music Award is $5,500, her Billboard Award is $5,000 and her MTV Moonman is $4,400 with, of course, plenty of time remaining. The Emmy also is estimated to sell for more than $20,000, while the iconic MTV award is just an $8,000 estimated piece.
More than 100 lots are included in the auction — many of them being awards, though other unique items include passports, signed credit cards, her wedding dress and even pieces signed to her from Shirley Temple, Michael Jackson and Nelson Mandela. Houston sold as many as 200 million copies of her albums during her musical career and appeared in six films before dying at age 48 in 2012.
