Buzz Poll: Which Mickey Mantle item topped the auction block?

mantle

Mickey Mantle dominated the auction block on Saturday night in Dallas as Heritage Auctions‘ Platinum Night sports sale was topped by a pair of Mantles with very different attributes.

Yet both had very high demand.

Both items you see here — one a PSA 8 copy of his 1952 Topps card and the other being Mantle’s New York Yankees road jersey worn when he hit his 535th career home run on Sept. 19, 1968 — are six-figure items.

One went for $660,000 with a buyer’s premium while the other went for $486,000 and with that pair of facts we have these two questions for you.

Spoiler: Highlight the text after this on this line to learn more. The card sold for more.

Our annual trip back in time officially arrives on Wednesday as 2017 Topps Heritage hits once again with a look back at the burlap design of 1968 Topps using today’s stars.

Part of that package will be variations that are based on errors and variations from the original set that it seeks to replicate (at least in part) and we’ll get to those right here as they arrive.

For now, though, our gallery here will include looks at the basics and other fun finds as they arrive — and they have started to show up from Topps and they’ll be hitting eBay auctions via retail breaks at any time now.

Bill Paxton’s memorable career reflected on very little cardboard

s-l1600

Despite an acting career that included nearly 100 credits and memorable roles over a 40-year span, Bill Paxton‘s cardboard credits are few.

He’s got just eight certified autographs in two products.

The 61-year-old actor died this weekend after complications due to a surgery and that means many fans might be seeking a memento that they had meant to track down but hadn’t done yet.

Funko Pop! toys aren’t just for collectors and this unboxing video from WWE‘s Xavier Woods (aka Austin Creed aka Austin Watson) and a member of The New Day offers a closer look at things.

“It still strange that I have a Pop!” he says in the video. “Certain things you want to reach — goals and everything. And I wanted to be a wrestler on TV and I wanted to work in video games but … things I didn’t even know that I wanted in life.”

Buzz Poll: Would you buy a Super Bowl used confetti card?

super-bowl-li-confetti

The Lombardi trophy confetti you see here is reportedly from Super Bowl LI and it recently fetched some surprising money — $50! — on eBay.

And it’s not alone.

Maybe it’s just those rabid New England Patriots fans out there, but that got Buzz wondering …

It’s not been done before but it seems like everything else has made it into cards. Unless the NFL objects, it seems like it could be done quite easily.
