“The Raging Bull” has died.
Jake LaMotta, a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame after a lengthy career that included an 83-19-4 record, was 95 years old. He famously fought — and defeated — Sugar Ray Robinson in 1942 and his memoir inspired Martin Scorsese’s 1980 film Raging Bull where he was played by Robert DeNiro.
Despite boxing not having a regularly occurring trading card presence, LaMotta could be found in a number of sets throughout the years.

Floyd Mayweather‘s big win over Conor McGregor on Saturday night is now commemorated on Topps Now cards where the 50-0 champ’s autograph also is up for grabs.

The Panini VIP Party will pack some punch — and that’s not just in all those SWAG bags and promo packs.
Panini America revealed the sixth guest for its upcoming exclusive event set for Saturday night and it’s eight-time champ Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, who was the first fighter to win titles in five weight divisions.
The event coincides with the National Sports Collectors Convention, which is under way in Chicago and runs through Sunday.
Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. — it’s one of those what-if fantasy battles from the magazines of old that’s coming true.

We don’t have all of the details yet, but one of the most-popular video games of the 1980s is getting full artistic honors with a tribute show launching tonight via a Los Angeles gallery.
The game is Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! and the locale is Gallery1988.

“I must break you” will have a new twist next month as Ivan Drago becomes one of the Bleacher Creatures next month.
The Plymouth, Pa.-based company has revealed a line of six plush toys for the Rocky franchise, which is celebrating its 4oth anniversary this year.
Drago was of course the main opponent of Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV and he’s not the only foe in the Bleacher Creatures lineup.

One of The Greatest’s greatest belts is on the auction block this week.
It’s Muhammad Ali‘s WBC heavyweight championship belt from his win over George Foreman during the “Rumble in the Jungle” fight and it’s being sold by Heritage Auctions.
“The historical significance of the piece, arguably the most significant boxing award ever made available at public auction, is quite simply immeasurable,” reads the Dallas-based auction house’s listing. “Far more than just a trophy of elite athletic achievement, this belt serves as a mute witness to Muhammad Ali’s undaunted pursuit of justice itself, and as a symbol of the myriad complexities of race, religion and patriotism that challenge all of us to this day. It is a truly priceless artifact of the American experience.”
What: 2016 Topps Rocky 40th Anniversary trading cards
Arrives: Wednesday (Aug. 31) via Topps.com.
Set basics: 330 cards per set.
The Basics: Topps has teased a Wednesday arrival for a set examining all of the Rocky films that will apparently have inserted autographs from Sylvester Stallone. The standard cards appear to use the design from the Rocky II set previously made by Topps in 1979. Update: The set will consist of 330 cards covering six films with a price of $59.99. Autographed cards will be limited to just 10 copies apiece with four different signed cards found one in every 125 sets.

Topps’ celebration of Rocky‘s 40th anniversary continues at the National Sports Collectors Convention this week with some new old-looking cardboard.
Why? It’s a teaser for a more-comprehensive release for the collection of movies to come at a later time.

Boxing fans will get a sneak peek at the Muhammad Ali trading card set that’s coming later this month from Leaf Trading Cards tonight on eBay.
The company has decided to sell the 1/1 proof cards from 2016 Leaf Muhammad Ali Immortal Collection directly to the public via the auction site. (Update: The cards will be posted at a specific time announced in advance on Tuesday.)
As he told us all, he floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee — he was the greatest of the great … his name was Muhammad Ali.
The legendary boxer, iconic athlete, activist and cultural figure died Friday night. He was 74.
“A true great has left us,” promotor Bob Arum told ESPN. “Muhammad Ali transformed this country and impacted the world with his spirit. His legacy will be part of our history for all time.”
This year’s National Sports Collectors Convention is a couple of months away and thanks to its non-traditional location — Atlantic City, N.J. — there are perhaps a few more guests on tap that we’ve not expected to see at the annual show.
It’s been a long time since the show was last in New Jersey — it’s largely been located in the Midwest for most of the last decade — so regional autograph guests such as Hideki Matsui and countless others who wore pinstripes and starred for other teams in that area make sense. They’ll also help draw in locals who might not normally hit the show … just to get that ink.
Autograph ticket pricing for the show will come soon, but Buzz has picked seven top names that may not break the bank — one per sport — at the show.
