What’s Buzzing Today: Impressive pulls in cases, blasters and food-issue reactions.
This year’s edition of National Treasures football cards arrived on Friday and Buzz took an hour to watch a small sliver of the breaks seen over on BlowoutTV toward the end of a long day of breaking.
Former NFL fullback Kevin Turner played just eight seasons as a pro, retiring from the game at age 30 in 1999, but his story and his efforts to help players suffering from health issues after retirement will resonate for years.
He died on Thursday at age 46 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The former New England Patriot and Philadelphia Eagle was one of the lead plaintiffs in the concussion lawsuit against the NFL that led to the billion-dollar 2013 settlement that was finally approved last year. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 and since then had worked with his foundation to help research and raise awareness.
What: 2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork trading cards

What’s buzz-worthy: Topps ushers in the new generation of Star Wars to the high-end with a mix of the past and present films in the sophomore release of its highest-end set for the franchise, complete with new signers and new Relics that include … wait for it … a piece of the Death Star.

There was big news out of the NBA Developmental League this week and it involves a player with plenty of cardboard you could want to collect.
Delaware 87ers guard Russ Smith scored a league-record 65 points in a 140-129 loss, connecting on 24 of 42 field goals and 16 of 20 free throws in the game.
Leaf Trading Cards has clarified the production volumes on some of its Tom Brady autographs after questions about the cards after the company released the cards with corrected stamping.
The cards can be found in boxes of 2016 Leaf Metal Draft. A layer of white foil covers the incorrect serial-numbering underneath the correct numbers, which are foil-stamped.
“They were originally misnumbered. Since they were already signed, we had to renumber. Numbering matches the website,” said one of a few tweets from the company regarding the Brady cards. “We apologize for any inconvenience. Our checklist clearly states print run. This is a non-event from my perspective. … The other option was to remove him from the product. We did what we felt was best for our customers. … It was fix numbering or have them numbered out of much higher numbers which would hurt value more.”
The global game can spark global interest in cardboard and the latest Topps soccer release shows that with a simple glimpse at the big-hit potential seen via eBay auctions.

What’s Buzzing Today: BGS Black grading hauls, Heritage Supers, case-breaks & more
For nine years, Joe Garagiola was a big-league catcher, but for decades after that he was a voice of baseball and a personality on network television.
He worked NBC‘s Game of the Week and World Series coverage and was a host of Today and a fill-in host on The Tonight Show, too. He died on Wednesday at age 90.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of this amazing man who was not just beloved by those of us in his family, but to generations of baseball fans who he impacted during his eight decades in the game,” said a statement from his family. “Joe loved the game and passed that love onto family, his friends, his teammates, his listeners and everyone he came across as a player and broadcaster. His impact on the game, both on and off the field, will forever be felt.”
Today’s the day that Topps‘ second series of Star Wars: The Force Awakens trading cards officially arrive and some of the inclusions are quite rare and also quite deluxe for what is a very affordable brand.

It’s a new brand name with a semi-familiar look, so what should we expect to find in 2016 Topps Legacies of Baseball?
Buzz took a look at the checklist to find out.
First, though, the basics: You get four cards per box for a premium price — one being a metal card, two being autographs and one being an insert.
The final Topps football card product arrives on March 31 with a high-end feel that might not be equaled in the 60 years that proceeded it.
Each box of 2015 Topps Diamond will include just three cards — one Diamond autograph limited to no more than 10 copies, one Diamond or Rookie Autograph Patch and one more autographed card. That’s it for the premium-priced brand.
A former Green Bay Packers lineman has opted to enlist in the Army National Guard, and, unlike many of his brothers on the offensive line, he has football cards for collectors to consider.
He’s Daryn Colledge, a 34-year-old, nine-year veteran of the league who was a member of the Super Bowl XLV-winning Packers. He started 137 games in his NFL career, also playing for the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.
“After all my time in the NFL, traveling, meeting and supporting the troops, I’ve decided to step up and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them,” he said on Twitter. “This was not a decision made lightly. We live in an ever-changing world and at this time in my life I feel it is best-served with me in defense of my family, state, country. With the support of my family [and] friends I look forward to the work and road ahead.”
