Black November Wave 4 is here … and here are five deals to consider

If you hadn’t noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices right now over on the mothership as BlowoutCards.com is in the midst its Black November sales now.

Wave 4 is here and many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases — and here are five boxes/cases that caught this collector’s eye.

2016 Topps Heritage Minor League Baseball hobby box
You may not recognize the uniforms here but they’re creative — and wearing them are names you should know with guys like Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Rhys Hoskins on the checklist. The crop of players here is pretty strong and so is the signers list in a product that takes the 1967 Topps design back to the minor leagues. Atop the signers list that includes Dansby Swanson, Andrew Benintendi, Alex Bregman, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout for starters, they’re all on-card autographs here. A couple of boxes should get you a basic base set and a number of the inserts that this one includes. It’s a simple but fun break and you can see a sample box here.

Celebrity autographs just might be easier to find than you think

When it comes to autographs in the sports world, there are plenty of ways that collectors and the autograph industry itself has helped commodify ink.

In other words, there are a number of common items that are commonly signed that help us all figure a common value that we’d expect to pay or expect to get if we have to sell something we own. Jerseys, balls, helmets, cards, photos — there are a lot of ways to collect sports autographs.

But for celebrity autographs, it’s a lot less complicated as the 8-by-10 photo is arguably the most-commonly solid piece across the whole spectrum of television, movies and others of note who we might find, say, at a comic book convention or other similarly organized signing session. Not all films have massive toy lines, not all celebs have book deals and TV shows often don’t have posters you can find all that easily.

But that’s not all of note in this one if you look closely at the checklist.

Board Buzz Gallery: Impressive and favorite non-sports autographs

Best-non-sports-autographs-gallery-Jennifer G
Is there one non-sports autograph you’d want to own? If you’re a fan of anything beyond the sports world, there’s probably one name that comes to mind first.

In some cases — Star Wars and Star Trek, for example — a personality may have plenty of autographs, but in others there may be just one.

Or none at all.

Geek Gallery: Creative everyday items for movie & TV fans

Who might make the cut for First Pitch in 2016 Topps Series 1?

Topps-AlbaOne of the surprises in last year’s Topps baseball card set was First Pitch, a collection of celebrities seen throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at MLB games.

It’s back for 2016 Topps Series 1 — a set that’s just 13 days away — and it’s still a secret as the checklist has not yet been revealed. (Nor has the design — so you can settle for last year’s Jessica Alba card above.)

But Buzz has done some research to perhaps discover who’ll be in this year’s set. We don’t know how many cards there might be, but they’ll be found a few times per box.

Keep reading for the possibilities.

Funko Mystery Minis pack toys, fun & chase into little boxes for little price

MysteryMinis-WWE

It’s a trend that’s been growing for the last decade, but there are probably more than a few collectors who have walked right by them in the card aisle at retail stores not realizing what can be had inside packs.

They’re generally known as blind-wrapped mystery toys — a small vinyl figure inside a box or mylar pouch. They’re something that’s been popular in Japan for a long time, but have  taken off in the United States for the last decade.

Think of them as one part coin vending machine, one part toy and one part sports card.

Oh, and they can be one part fun.
