It’s one of the weirdest baseball card ever made for a long-time player who’s ultimately common-bin material, but it’s the inspiration for a minor-league bobblehead giveaway coming this summer.
It’s the 1984 Fleer Glenn Hubbard, No. 182 in the set, and it’s been getting big-league attention among the Intentional Talk crowd and goofy pre-spring headlines.
Hubbard is now the bench coach for the Lexington Legends, the Class-A affiliate of the World Series champion Kansas City Royals, and his bobblehead will be given out to fans on June 24. It will show him with a snake as seen on the card. (Why? Why not?)
The 12-year MLB veteran played 10 seasons for the Atlanta Braves and two seasons for the Oakland A’s where he was a member of the team during its World Series runs in 1988 and 1989. He hit .244 with 1,084 hits and 448 RBI in 1,354 games, but was released by Oakland before the team won it all in his final season.
