Panini revisits errors of past in 2016 Panini Classics football packs

2016-panini-classics-footballWhen 2016 Panini Classics football cards arrive next week, they will carry with them a new (old) look for the long-running brand.

They’ll come printed on oldschool cardboard, too.

But that’s not all that will be a throwback in the retro-styled brand — there will be errors and variations for collectors to chase.

panini-america-2016-classics-football-sps-variations27Panini teased the image above on Tuesday, roughly a week before Classics arrives with an autograph in every 14-pack box, a memorabilia in every other box and surprises like buyback autographs to be found in the product. (Need more info? Click here to see our First Buzz preview for the product.)

Among the variations will be blank-backs, cards missing the players’ names and red-back variations. Once variation details are firm, you can expect to find them right here on The Buzz. (This post will be updated.)

Here’s a rundown of what’s to come:

— Short-prints. A total of 40 cards will have a photo variation. According to the company, the card backs will have “a bolder black ink to make them easier to identify.”
— Glossy. Base cards for Legends and Rookies will have Bronze foil with “Glossy” printed on the front and inserts will, too.
— Red-backs. The backs are printed in red ink.
— Blank-backs. Card backs have team logo and legalese.
— No-names. These parallels of base cards, Legends and Rookies will not have a name on the front of the card.
