What’s Buzz-worthy: Topps’ first super-premium brand is back for another year with the smaller, more affordable format — just two autographs in every single box. This box delivered very well, albeit via a redemption for a top young star whose team could be on the cusp of making history this postseason. The design of the standard autos here is strong and there are some huge names to be found inside these boxes on both the cut autograph front and those who signed directly for Topps. Among them? Barry Bonds, who hasn’t signed for Topps in some time, soccer star Pele, Vin Scully, Bryce Harper, Hank Aaron, Ichiro Suzuki, Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Trout and Sandy Koufax. Meanwhile, on the cuts side there’s Johnny Cash, Jesse Owens, Louis Armstrong, Marlon Brando, Norman Rockwell, Paul McCartney, Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Roger Maris, Walter Johnson and Ty Cobb to name a few. That’s a crop that’s very strong — and this box was a strong one, too. The rip here is quick — so the fun factor might not be there but it really seems like the quality is on both the design and checklist side.
