What’s Buzz-worthy: The high-end NBA brands from Panini America can provide new-car power in terms of dollar amounts on the high-end rare rookies. This box wasn’t quite one of those, but it was an interesting rip with three cards limited to no more than 25 copies and players who are well known, though not all that expensive. The dual prime memorabilia card might be the coolest-looking card from two members of a beloved team from the past, but they’re not as big when it comes to demand. The big winner here is likely the card of two-time dunk contest champ Zach Lavine. … The standard Rookie Cards in this one are limited to only eight serial-numbered copies and the base cards are limited to 99. Do the math and you’ll see it’s quite tough to pull a particular standard Rookie Card. That should also show how the basic cards in this one are arguably undervalued on the secondary market, though we know this one is ultimately about the hits.  … This box isn’t cheap, so it’s one for those who don’t mind taking a risk. The only other drawback here is the thick stock, combined with foilboard and the boxed-pack format. You will see some corner issues from time to time. … Overall, I’m not sure the theme of Gala registers with collectors that well, but it has a fun look to it that carries a strong recent-past (1990s-2000s) vibe design-wise while also giving the hobby something new.
