What’s Buzz-worthy: There are two types of patch cards in these packs, which were bonus packs in blaster boxes of 2014 Topps Series 1. One type is a reprinted Rookie Card patch (24 cards), while the other is a team logo patch (25 cards). This lot included, as you can see above and below, one of each type as well as a second copy of a Robin Yount RC patch. Players of note who can be found on the logo versions include Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Clayton Kershaw, Anthony Rizzo and Buster Posey. Some of these spotlight mascots while others use team logos or commemorative patches such as Jeter’s 3,000th hit logo. The RC patches offer a fabric-based look at past cards from stars including Sandy Koufax, Frank Robinson, Roberto Clemente, George Brett, Wade Boggs, Ryne Sandberg, Tony Gwynn, Bryce Harper and Greg Maddux among others. All this collector pulled that year were the RC patches so seeing the Ortiz here was a fun surprise. These simple cards may sell for more than you’d expect (the logo cards more than the rookies) simply because they were only available one way and not throughout the entire hobby and retail run.
