Panini America addresses Dak Prescott autopen issue — and gives Dallas Cowboys QB an extension

A big deal has turned into a new deal.

Panini America officials have met with Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott to discuss his autopenned cards in 2016 Panini Prizm and the parties walked away with a solution to replace the mechanically reproduced autographs as well as a new long-term autograph deal.

Need an example of an autopenned NFL card? Turn back the clock and look to the top … Commish was on it

Autopens — a machine used to replicate a person’s autograph by mechanical means — are typically the tools of politicians, but they’ve also left their mark on the football card world long before Dak Prescott allegedly got into that game. 

In fact, you can turn the clock back to 1991 and 1992 for some textbook examples of certified autograph cards that were “signed” by the mechanical hands of three notable NFL names.

And one, a card that’s not been cataloged as such, is from former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

One NASCAR surprise sparks another that could heat up Daniel Suarez’s already warm cardboard

Carl Edwards‘ surprise exit from NASCAR for the upcoming season puts the spotlight on his replacement and, in turn, is likely to warm things up for what cardboard there is for him.

Replacing Edwards in the No. 19 Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing is Daniel Suarez, who’s already made a little history in recent months before becoming the newest rookie in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Suarez was the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR national championship when he took home top honors in the Xfinity Series last year.

Panini readies NFL Kickoff packs as bonuses for collectors next month

Its 2016 NFL Kickoff packs will be tied to two upcoming products — 2016 Panini Phoenix and 2016 Panini Prizm — and will be allocated to dealers for those product purchases. The packs are not to be sold but instead are intended to be bonus items for collectors.

Top NASCAR rookie Chase Elliott is first Panini VIP Party guest

ChaseElliottToday’s the day that Panini America‘s first NASCAR product arrives in the form of 2016 Panini Prizm, and one of the biggest newcomers in that set is Chase Elliott, who’s the leading candidate for the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year award.

Today’s also the day for the opening of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City, N.J., too.

And how do those two things cross paths? Elliott will be one of the guests at Panini’s VIP Party on Saturday night — he’s the first guest confirmed by the company.
