What’s buzz-worthy: Once again, Panini America’s first NASCAR release of the new year will be Donruss with it including a wide array of inserts and throwback nods — a mix that will include the memorable 1985 Donruss baseball design applied to the stars of racing.

When can group breaks get really good? When high-end dips in price …

The days of “something for nothing” are as gone as 45-cent wax packs in today’s card world, but group breaks via outlets such as BlowoutTV can offer up some surprises.

Particularly when high-end products go lower-end in price — or at least as low as they can go — and that’s where group breaks help out a lot.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s final ride will include a familiar look.

And there will be diecasts.

Lionel Racing unveiled a line of replicas for Earnhardt’s last race and it includes a nod to the paint scheme that he helped make famous in the years before he added an “8.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s autograph isn’t hard to land after retirement news

Dale Earnhardt Jr. — NASCAR’s most-popular driver — will be retiring after this season ends.

The 42-year-old shared his plans with his team today and a news conference is set for this afternoon to talk about his decision after 18 seasons as a driver at NASCAR’s highest level and more than 600 races.

The move shouldn’t come as a big surprise as he was sidelined with concussion issues for much of last season but that didn’t stop him from winning NASCAR’s most-popular driver award voting for the 14th straight year — the record for total wins is 16.

Lionel Racing offers up 10 top sellers for NASCAR diecasts in 2016

On the track, we should all know Jimmie Johnson was king this past season in NASCAR, driving his No. 48 to a record-tying seventh championship.

In the ballot box for fan voting, there were no surprises as Dale Earnhardt Jr. took home the  most-popular driver award for the 14th consecutive year despite missing a chunk of the season with concussion issues.

But who’s tops when it comes to NASCAR diecast sales? Well, Lionel Racing has that covered.

Upcoming Dale Earnhardt Jr. diecast Chevy sales will help benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital

The No. 88 Chevy of Dale Earnhardt Jr. will carry a special paint scheme for one race in July and the sales of its diecast replicas from Lionel Racing will help collectors help a good cause.

And maybe a young fan or two.

Rookie Chase Elliott wins Daytona 500 pole — check out the 2016 NASCAR diecasts so far (gallery)

The 58th running of the Daytona 500 is a week away and, while NASCAR collectors won’t have new trading cards to commemorate their new season, there are already plenty of diecasts available and more on the way.

Rookie Chase Elliott won the pole for the race on Sunday — he’s the youngest driver to ever take that honor — and he’s one of some new faces in new cars as he’s behind the No. 24 Chevy previously run by four-time champ Jeff Gordon.  

Elliott is the 20-year-old son of former Cup champion Bill Elliott and had 53 top-10 finishes in 66 Xfinity Series races — four of those wins — before making the jump to NASCAR’s top level.

Batman vs. Superman will make its way onto NASCAR track & diecasts

If you don’t remember seeing anything about Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice on TV or anywhere else, you might need to check your pulse.

One more place you’re going to be seeing more of the DC Comics powers before the movie arrives is on the NASCAR track and on diecast cars from Lionel Racing, which teased the forthcoming cars this week. The No. 48 Chevy of six-time champ and NASCAR’s Clark Kent, Jimmie Johnson, will take on the role of Superman.
