What’s buzz-worthy: TRISTAR’s Hidden Treasures football brand returns to the field for another season with some new NFL names and some of the biggest names from the past.
We’ve previously already gotten a look at Panini America‘s wrapper redemption cards (and the VIP set) for this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention here on The Buzz, but now it’s time for more details.
As in what gets what — which boxes need to be busted to land those sought-after silver packs at the five-day show, which begins Wednesday in Chicago.
History fans can pick up a bonus if they opt for a case of one Super Break product at this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention.
That product is 2017 Super Break The Bar Pieces of the Past and a 10-box case at the annual show that kicks off next Wednesday will get them a foil/glossy 1/1 parallel card.
What: Yu-Gi-Oh! Spirit Warriors

Box basics: Twenty-four five-card packs per box (12 boxes per case)
What’s buzz-worthy: According to Konami, this new 60-card booster set “takes full advantage of the latest updates to the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game” with Link Monsters, Extra Monster Zones and strategy key while also introducing two new themes. There are new “Six Samurai” cards that are compatible with old ones. … This booster set includes 40 Super Rares and 20 Ultra Rares. … The packs will carry a suggested retail price of $3.99.

Does the run on O.J. Simpson memorabilia begin now?
The Hall of Fame running back was granted parole Thursday afternoon in Nevada after spending nine years in prison for armed robbery involving two sports memorabilia dealers in Las Vegas. Before that, he was acquitted in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1995.
Not long after the new news on Thursday, one auction house had its own Simpson news. SCP Auctions will sell a pair of Simpson’s driver’s licenses in auctions in October — one issued to him in 1995 — around the same time that Simpson will be released.
All All-Stars, all the time.
That’s the theme of the newest Topps On Demand baseball card set as this week’s set offers a new twist on the 1987 Topps design along with looks back at All-Stars from that time as well as today.

This year’s big-name rookies are coming to the biggest show of them all via Topps‘ wrapper redemption program revealed on Tuesday afternoon.
Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Derek Jeter, Sandy Koufax, Kris Bryant and more stars from the past and present will be found in four-card packs of 2017 Bowman Chrome National Sports Collectors Convention cards, which can be had for opening boxes of cards at the company’s booth during the show, which is set for July 26-30 in Chicago.

What’s Buzzing Today: Nothing but breaks — and preparatory chatter for The National.
He’s traveled the world a few times over, been on the cover of Rolling Stone, won a grammy and helped sell millions of albums in the last 20 years, but there’s just something different about appearing on a Topps baseball card.
And that’s something that Slipknot‘s Chris Fehn, aka No. 3, can add to his accomplishments beginning Wednesday with the arrival of 2017 Topps Allen & Ginter.
“It’s crazy,” Fehn said. “It’s one of the coolest things that’s ever happened to me. Being a collector since I was a kid and then now to have something from that company of my own … it’s amazing.”
Ezekiel Elliott was a force as a rookie last season for the Dallas Cowboys, coming up just short of the NFL rookie rushing record but he might as well have gotten it based on cardboard standards.
His 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, along with success for his team that firmly put it back in the national spotlight, were highlights that sold some cards and then some. But fast-forward to today and the Rookie of the Year allegedly was entangled in some type of bar fight Sunday while already being investigated for domestic violence.
We’ve been there, done that like this before — many players have had many issues, this is nothing new — but not many of them have lit up the hobby as a rookie like Elliott did last season.
That leads to questions about cardboard …
